FAQs
Are dogs allowed on the beach in Bar Harbor Maine?
Dogs are allowed on the sandy gravel bar at the bottom of Bridge Street that many people take to Bar Island. It appears at low tide. You can walk your pup on the island trail through forests for gorgeous views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay.
Hadley Point Beach about 10 miles north of Bar Harbor is another great place to walk your dog or take them for a swim. This is a beautiful spot to make a campfire and enjoy the gorgeous views and sunsets. Dogs can be on the beach at any time, with a leash.
In Acadia, dogs are allowed on Sand Beach September 9 thru June 14, during the “non-swimming” season. As well as on the freshwater beach at Echo Lake, just north of Southwest Harbor. But only in the cooler season from September 16 to May 14. It’s also one of the only lakes you can swim in Acadia.
Can you bring Dogs into Acadia?
Yes you can bring dogs into certain parts of Acadia National Park. There are 145 miles (161 km) of hiking trails and 45 miles (72kms) of Carriage Roads where pets are allowed.
All three campgrounds allow pets; Blackwoods, Seawall, and Schoodic Woods campgrounds. Isle de Haute only allows dogs going on day hikes. Duck Harbor Campground does not allow pets.
Can Dogs go to Cadillac Mountain?
Leashed dogs are allowed to go on Cadillac Mountain if you are wanting to watch the sunrise or see amazing views from the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
For hiking trails, the Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail is a fun 7.1 mile (11.4 km) round trip hike. If your dog is active and can hike more difficult trails, then this is a great choice.
