In addition to many dog friendly Bar Harbor hotels and rentals, it’s a dog friendly town. Many restaurants allow dogs on their patios / decks when open. 

Take your pup to dine on the patio with you at places such as Stewman’s Lobster Pound, Side Street Cafe, Atlantic Brewing & Mainely Meat BBQ, and McKay’s Public House.

Atlantic Eyrie Lodge is a unique and relaxing retreat, set up on a hill with gorgeous views of Frenchman Bay and Porcupine Islands.

Just minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park by car. Contemporary spacious pet friendly rooms (most with balconies) include King, Queen and Suites. 

The lodge allows two pets up to 65 lbs for an additional one-time pet fee of $45, and they have some grassy areas for pet relief.

The lodge also offers pet friendly suites and rooms which are labelled pet friendly on booking.

For the other family members, enjoy a dip in their heated outdoor salt water pool with ocean views, and  complimentary hot breakfast.

Planning on renting a car in Maine? There is so much more to Acadia National Park than just the Park Loop Road. Many quieter and beautiful areas are easier to reach by car.

Friendly, helpful staff, and spacious, comfortable rooms, are a good value for the price. 

The Best Western allows 2 dogs up to 80lbs each with a  reasonable pet fee of $30  per day. A refundable damage deposit of $150 is required on check-in.

All rooms are on the first floor, allowing for easy access with pets, and parking in front of your room. 

Amenities for the humans include a full free breakfast, parking and WIFI. 

Lounge by the seasonal outdoor pool open May to October.  Or take the kids to the playground, play a little bocce or roast s’mores around the fire pits in the evening.

Dogs are welcome most places on the property, and they also provide a good area for dog walking and a grassy relief spot on the property itself. 

Humans can enjoy their seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub, great on premise restaurants (two), and their waterfront lounge. It’s a short 1 mile walk or drive to downtown Bar Harbor.

6. Wonder View Inn & Suites

With pet friendly rooms in all 4 of their buildings, you can bring up to two pets of any size.

An additional fee of $25 per pet, per night will be charged. 

Dog treats, water bowls and waste bags are usually provided for your furry friends. 

For the rest of your family, the Wonder View has clean, comfortable rooms, and good service with attentive staff. Rooms are outdated (think early 2000’s not the 80’s), but are a great value.

Are dogs allowed on the beach in Bar Harbor Maine?

Dogs are allowed on the sandy gravel bar at the bottom of Bridge Street that many people take to Bar Island. It appears at low tide. You can walk your pup on the island trail through forests for gorgeous views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay.

Hadley Point Beach about 10 miles north of Bar Harbor is another great place to walk your dog or take them for a swim. This is a beautiful spot to make a campfire and enjoy the gorgeous views and sunsets. Dogs can be on the beach at any time, with a leash.

In Acadia, dogs are allowed on Sand Beach September 9 thru June 14, during the “non-swimming” season. As well as on the freshwater beach at Echo Lake, just north of Southwest Harbor. But only in the cooler season from September 16 to May 14. It’s also one of the only lakes you can swim in Acadia.

Can you bring Dogs into Acadia?

Yes you can bring dogs into certain parts of Acadia National Park. There are 145 miles (161 km) of hiking trails and 45 miles (72kms) of Carriage Roads where pets are allowed.

All three campgrounds allow pets; Blackwoods, Seawall, and Schoodic Woods campgrounds. Isle de Haute only allows dogs going on day hikes. Duck Harbor Campground does not allow pets.

Can Dogs go to Cadillac Mountain?

Leashed dogs are allowed to go on Cadillac Mountain if you are wanting to watch the sunrise or see amazing views from the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the U.S.

For hiking trails, the Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail is a fun 7.1 mile (11.4 km) round trip hike. If your dog is active and can hike more difficult trails, then this is a great choice.
