Favorite Pumpkin Patch Dipped Oreos

Six dipped Oreos decorated with green icing vines and stems are arranged on a white plate. The cookies are coated in orange candy to resemble pumpkins, with whole Oreos and white pumpkins in the background for a festive fall touch.

While I like to imagine myself curled up with a good book, cozy sweater and a cup of coffee reading for hours / days in a quiet space, I often find fall to be one of my busier seasons. Back to school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, school events… you get my drift.

Which is why this Oreo Pumpkins recipe is such a time-saver during the hustle and bustle of fall.

With just pre-made Oreo cookies, pretzels, and candy melts, you’ll be whipping up a pumpkin patch of treats faster than you can say trick or treat (well almost).

I’ve made these more than once for bake sales and Halloween parties, and the one time I skipped adding a little oil to the candy melts I ended up with lumpy pumpkins that looked straight out of a Tim Burton movie.

These Halloween Oreo desserts are kid-friendly, party-ready, and just the right mix of cute and spooky you want in a fall finger food dessert.

They’re also easy enough to make with kids, though they are messy, and aren’t as picture perfect. But that is half the fun. We’ll often make them as jack o’ lanterns with the kids by either adding candy eyes, or using black edible gel we get at the grocery store.

I also love that they travel well, are easy to make and are a fun fall treat all ages love.

Ingredients You’ll Need for Pumpkin Patch Cookies

For the Dipped Oreo Pumpkins:

Cookie Tips: In Fall you can often find seasonal Oreos which are fun to use instead of the plain ones. You can also switch up the cookie decorations with different colored candy melts to easily make mummy oreos, or Frankenstein oreos.

Candy Melt Tips: The easiest & most popular candy melts to buy are Wilton’s orange candy melts, however some people find they have a waxier taste than other brands. Ghirardelli Vanilla Melting Wafers are tastier in our opinion, but come in limited colors, so you’d have to buy oil-based food coloring specifically made for chocolate or candy.

Equipment You’ll Need

How to Make Cute Oreo Dipped Pumpkins

Three DIY pumpkin treats for Halloween made from orange candy-coated oreo cookies, each topped with a pretzel stick stem and green icing vine. The treats are arranged on parchment paper beside a green icing piping bag, with a striped orange and white kitchen towel below.

1. Prep the stems

A stack of Oreo cookies sits on parchment paper, with a few cookies individually shown having pretzel sticks inserted at the top. A small bowl of melted orange candy and broken pretzel pieces are nearby, with an orange and white striped towel at the bottom of the frame.

Gently press one half of a pretzel stick into the cream filling at the top of each Oreo to create a stem.

2. Melt orange candy melts

A bowl of melted orange candy with a spoon rests on parchment paper, surrounded by Oreo cookie stacks and scattered pretzel sticks. An orange and white striped towel lines the bottom edge, suggesting a setup for making festive treats.

Follow package directions to melt the orange candy wafers in a microwave-safe bowl, or using the double boiler method. Stir until smooth.

3. Dip the Oreo cookies

A chocolate sandwich cookie with a pretzel stick inserted is held over a bowl of melted orange candy using a fork. The setup rests on parchment paper with more cookies and a striped orange and white towel visible in the background.

Place one Oreo on a fork and hold it over the bowl of melted orange candy. Then spoon or drizzle the melted candy over the cookie until it’s fully coated.

Gently tap the handle of the fork a few times to help the excess chocolate drip off.

Before placing the cookie on parchment paper, you can also gently scrape the bottom of the fork against the edge of the bowl to remove any remaining drips.

4. Cool and harden

Four orange candy-coated cookies with pretzel stick stems are arranged on parchment paper atop a wooden board. A green piping bag sits on the side, and an orange and white striped towel is partially visible at the bottom of the frame.

Carefully place the dipped cookie on parchment paper. Repeat for all Oreos. Allow to cool until the coating is firm.

5. Decorate the dipped Oreos with vines

Six pumpkin-themed treats made from orange candy-coated oreo cookies are arranged on parchment paper over a wooden cutting board. Each cookie has a pretzel stick stem and green icing vine, with a green piping bag resting on the left side.

Melt the green candy melts according to the package instructions. Pour into a piping bag or zip-loc bag with the corner snipped off.

Pipe small leaves and swirly vines near the pretzel stem.

6. Set and store

Let green decorations cool and harden completely.

Storage Tips: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

How to Serve Pumpkin Dipped Oreos

Here are some cute ideas of how to serve the pumpkin dipped Oreo cookie treats:

  • Mini Pumpkin Patch Display: Arrange the Oreos on a tray lined with crinkled green paper “grass” or edible green sprinkles to look like a pumpkin patch.
  • Party Platter with Extras: Serve alongside other fall treats like candy corn, caramel popcorn, or pretzel rods dipped in chocolate for a festive dessert board.
  • Individually Wrapped for Bake Sales: Place each cookie in a clear cellophane bag, tie with orange or green ribbon, and add a cute fall tag. Great for grab-and-go sales.
  • Cupcake Liners for Easy Grabbing: Place each Oreo in a fall or Halloween themed cupcake liner for easy serving at school events, parties or bake sales.
  • Make into a cookie pop: Insert a paper straw or lollipop stick before dipping and turn them into pumpkin cookie pops. Extra cute for kid parties and a little less mess for little hands.
A single Oreo cookie with a pretzel stem is held above a bowl of melted orange candy, ready to be dipped for a Halloween pumpkin treat. More cookies and pretzel sticks are scattered in the background, set against a striped orange and white towel for a festive touch.

Tips & Variations

  • Color play: Swap orange for white chocolate dyed with gel food coloring if you’re out of orange melts
  • Don’t overheat the candy: Melt in short 15–30 second bursts in the microwave, stirring between each round. Overheating causes clumping and a chalky texture.
  • Thin your melts if needed: If the candy melts are too thick or lumpy, stir in ½ teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening at a time. It helps the coating glide on smoothly and sets with a better finish.
  • Mini version: Use mini Oreos for bite-size pumpkins, adorable and snackable.
  • Allergy-friendly: Use gluten-free Oreos or dairy-free chocolate as needed.
  • Theme twist: Turn them into jack-o’-lanterns with black decorating gel for a spooky spin.
