Planning a family vacation but wondering what to make for breakfast each morning? Finding easy breakfast ideas for vacation rentals, cabins, or cottages can make your trip much more relaxing.
When we first started staying in vacation rentals with our kids, I imagined slow mornings sipping coffee on the porch. Instead, I found myself cooking breakfast and cleaning up for everyone before the day even started.
After a few trips like that, I realized I wanted more time sipping my coffee and easing into the day, not scrambling around the kitchen at the crack of dawn.
Some of these breakfasts I prep before we leave home, like muffins and casseroles and just reheat throughout our trip. Others are quick, simple breakfast recipes you can make in just a few minutes, even if the kitchen only has the basics.
Many are flexible too, so you can swap ingredients or adjust them based on your kid’s or the other adults preferences.
If you’re staying in a cabin, beach house, cottage, or Airbnb, these easy vacation rental breakfast ideas will help keep your mornings simple so you can spend more time relaxing and exploring.
Below you’ll find:
- Easy make-ahead breakfasts
- Quick recipes you can cook at your rental
- Grab-and-go breakfast ideas
- Simple meals that work even in small kitchens
Whenever possible, my family prefers staying in cottages, cabins, or condos when we travel.
Being able to make some of our own meals saves a surprising amount of money and honestly, sometimes it’s just easier than packing everyone up to go out to eat first thing in the morning. Especially now that are youngest is a teen and refuses to get up early.
Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks that make vacation breakfasts much easier.
- Plan simple meals ahead of time: Before leaving home, I make a rough meal plan for the trip. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just a few easy breakfasts we know everyone enjoys.
- Check what your rental kitchen has: Some vacation rentals have fully stocked kitchens, while others only have the basics which can affect which easy breakfast ideas for a cabin etc. will work best. I usually check ahead to see if things like a blender, toaster, pots and pans etc are available.
- Bring a Few Pantry Staples: Small items like cooking oil, spices, pancake mix, or coffee filters can make cooking much easier when you arrive. We like to bring our own portable Hario V60 pour over coffee maker and own beans, as we are picky about our coffee.
- Prep food before you leave: Whenever possible, I prepare a few breakfasts at home. Muffins, egg casseroles, pancakes, or granola are all easy to bring along and save time during the trip, making them great make-ahead vacation breakfasts.
- Choose easy cleanup meals: One-pan or one-pot breakfasts are ideal when you’re on vacation and don’t want to spend the morning doing dishes.
- Get groceries delivered: Use a delivery service to have your first couple of days (or more) groceries delivered to your vacation rental that first night. This will save you time & hassle and usually doesn’t cost that much.

1. Feta Fried Eggs

If you want something quick but still a little special, feta fried eggs are a great choice. The feta crisps up in the pan and adds a salty, delicious flavor to simple fried eggs.
We love serving these on avocado toast with a little fresh fruit on the side.
Best part? They take less than 10 minutes to make.

This is one of my favorite fun vacation breakfasts.
Instead of traditional waffles, you simply cook canned cinnamon rolls in the waffle maker. They come out crispy on the outside and soft inside. You can make ahead, or bring your own compact waffle maker with you.
Add maple syrup or the cream cheese icing for an easy treat that feels like a vacation splurge.

These fluffy buttermilk pancakes cook quickly and are perfect for slow, cozy vacation mornings with coffee and maple syrup.

For a plant-based vacation breakfast, tofu scramble is a fantastic option.
In my twenties I dated someone who had been vegetarian his entire life, and I learned several vegetarian recipes from him and his family. Tofu scramble quickly became one of my favorites.
The curry seasoning in this version adds amazing flavor while keeping the dish high-protein and filling.
I like to pile it on a piece of hearty bread / toast with some avocado slices.

25. Frittata

Frittatas are one of our favorite quick and cheap vacation meals because they’re so flexible.
Whenever we have leftover vegetables, cheese, or cooked meat in the fridge, I’ll throw everything into a skillet and make a simple frittata.
