Planning your next family vacation but not sure what to bring or cook for breakfast? We’ve put together a list of our favorite easy, premade breakfast ideas, perfect for your vacation rental, cabin, or cottage.
I believe family vacations are all about connecting and relaxing — not spending your entire trip in the kitchen or cleaning up. That’s why I love prepping easy, premade breakfasts for our trips (which we take about 1 to 3 times a year). This way, there’s more time to sip on my coffee, at least for a few minutes.
These recipes are quick, tasty, and a breeze to make, even if you only have basic kitchen items. Plus they’re super flexible so you can swap or leave out ingredients based on your kids’ (or the other adults’) preferences.
You’ll find vacation meal planning tips to keep things simple, followed by easy breakfast recipes you can prep ahead of time and reheat at your vacation spot. And of course, there are grab-and-go ideas and quick recipes to whip up in just minutes at your cottage.
Whenever possible my family and I prefer to stay in local cottages, cabins and condos for those lazy summer weekends, and family trips.
The convenience of being able to easily make our own meals and keep costs down by buying our own groceries and bringing our own food from home is worth it.
That way we can splurge on the things we really want to see, do and eat, rather than spending a large portion of our budget on restaurants.
We like to plan easy to make & clean up meals, that don’t require a lot of fancy kitchen equipment.
Here are a few of our top vacation meal planning tips
- Plan Ahead: Create a meal plan before your family trip to save time and money. Check with your rental to see what they provide for food / spice staples, kitchen appliances and items.
- Create a shopping list: A grocery list will help you make sure you have what you need, without spending a lot of money extra on things you don’t.
- Pack Essentials: Bring along basic ingredients like herbs, cooking oil and favourite easy to pack foods.
- Opt for One-Pot Meals: Simplify cooking and cleanup with dishes that require only one pot or pan.
- Choose Versatile Ingredients: Select items that can be used in multiple recipes to minimize waste & time. Prepared meals like rotisserie chicken & packaged, just add water pancake mix, can save you time & hassle.
- Get groceries delivered: Use a delivery service to have your first couple of days (or more) food delivered to your vacation rental that first night. This will save you time & hassle and usually doesn’t cost that much.
- Make food ahead: We like to prep and make as much food as feasible ahead of time for things like muffins, casseroles, waffles or pancakes. This cuts down our time in the kitchen on holiday.
