Ingredients

  • 12 Pretzel Twists
  • 1/2 Cup Green Candy Melts
  • 12 red heart candy sprinkles (edible)

Instructions

    1. Prepare the Baking Sheet

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking, and set it aside.

    2. Melt the Green Candy Melts

Using a microwave-safe bowl, melt the green candy melts as directed on the package. Stir until the mixture is smooth and lump-free. This will help ensure an even coating for the pretzel treats.

    3. Dip the Pretzels

Hold the pretzel by one corner. Dip half of each mini pretzel twist into the melted green candy. Hold over the bowl for a few seconds to let any excess candy drip back into the bowl.

Then place the pretzels on the prepared baking sheet.

    4. Add the Heart Sprinkles

While the candy coating is still soft, press a red heart candy sprinkle onto one side of each pretzel to represent the Grinch’s heart.

    5. Let the Pretzels Set

Let the pretzels rest at room temperature until the candy coating has completely set. To speed things up, place the baking sheet in the fridge for about 10 minutes.

    6. Store & Enjoy

Once set, move the pretzels to an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to one week. Enjoy your festive Grinch-themed Christmas pretzels!

Notes

    • Work Quickly: When adding the heart sprinkles, make sure to place them on the pretzels before the candy melts harden, so they stick well.
    • Customize the Colors: If you’re making these pretzels for other holidays, feel free to swap the green candy melts for another color, like red or white, and use different sprinkles to match the theme.
    • Speed Up Cooling: Placing the pretzels in the refrigerator for 10 minutes will help the candy harden faster, saving you time.
    • Use Other Pretzel Shapes: This recipe can also work with mini pretzel rods or pretzel sticks, so feel free to use what you have on hand.
    • Double the Recipe: Need to make more? This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled if you’re preparing for a larger crowd or holiday gift bags.

Helpful tips for working with candy melts:

  • Melt Slowly and Gently: Candy melts can burn easily, so it’s important to melt them in short intervals in the microwave and stir in between. Make sure you melt them at 50% power or defrost setting and let them stand in the microwave 30 to 60 secs after it's done. You can also use a double boiler to melt them gently on the stovetop. If you aren't sure, do a small test batch first.
  • Thin the Candy Melts: If the melted candy is too thick, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil or coconut oil at a time to thin it out. This helps achieve a smoother consistency for dipping and coating.
  • Dip or Drizzle Quickly: Once melted, candy melts can start to harden again as they cool. Work quickly with your dipped items or drizzle designs. Keep the melts warm by placing the bowl over a hot towel or in a larger bowl of warm water to extend the working time.
